“Lent is the
right time to learn to stay with Mary and John, his favourite disciple,”
Benedict XVI tells us.
It
is the right time to learn how to discover to be a disciple and when we
become disciples we will understand that Christ loved us first and he is
showing us which the way of love is. Because he had already manifested
himself in the call, in the transfiguration.
The face full of pain that we contemplate is the same face we contemplate in
the glory of the Tabor. It is not a different face, it is the same face we
should discover in different situations. It is the face of the painstricken,
of the disfigured, that we find in many faces in pain, in many destroyed
bodies.
That`s why the way of the disciple is a constant learning process, which
allows us to learn to look at reality from the point of view of the God who
loves us and that love implies permanent and total commitent.
To be a disciple is to learn to be at the service of the most needy,
especially. A church which is at the service of everybody is a church which
has a disciple`s attitude.
In a world which wants to look to the other side o which tries to justify
hatred and death, we introduce us saying: we are disciples of the Lord, the
Lord of Life.
Lent is time to assume with gratitude life as a gift.
To promote with passion the culture of life in the daily service.
To defend the dignity of any life, especially the life of the weakest and
the defenseless ones.
To proclaim the Gospel of life, Jesus, who is way, truth and life for each
man and woman, each community and each people.
