We
are at the beginning of an important period for the Church, an important
period for us, who are preparing for a journey... a journey into meditation,
a journey during which we'll look at the life we have led and the life we
will lead so as to become entirely free men and women.
The first issue to revew is our capacity to make a pause, to look into our
soul and observe carefully each moment, each attitude, each gesture and
discover in ourserlves the elements that make us men and women of truth, and
not just people displaying humanity as a frontpiece.
Ash Wednesday leads us towards this capacity to be ourserlves and look at
reality harshly but also with the joy implided in the lack of prejudices,
with honesty and simplicity of the heart.
Ash Wednesday tells us that we are not allmighty, that we cannont dispose of
the lives of our brothers as we think fit, nor can we dispose of our own
lives in such way because life is a gift from God to all. For this reason,
the words “Convert and believe” used by the Gospel are loaded with a new and
strong meaning particularly for us who wish that our lives be a permanent
conversion at the service of those who suffer most.
We carry our this task with all our sisters, trying to motivate all to
assume this search for truth and fulfillment. In order to reach this
fulfillment, to be truly ourserlves we need to be able to work in depth,
remind everybody that women are not objects or goods, but persons. We should
celebrate Ash Wednesday also as a Movement and halt to look at ourserlves
see wheather we have been faithful to our road-map in faith. Only this way
can we practice the road leading to an encounter with the Resurrected.
