Man, when wanting, has
the capacity to hide or deceive about feelings, looking at one’s own reality
often makes us feel afraid, closing our eyes in front of the circumstances
which surround us creates the false peace which doesn’t allow us to grow.
The tale in the Genesis which tells us about Adam and Eve after eating the
forbidden fruit, trying to hide themselves and to cover their bodies can be
read as the fear to show how we really are, who we are and how we are afraid
of the harm the other can make to us if we realize we are vulnerable, we can
make mistakes, we can disobey.
The samaritan starts her meeting with Jesus when she is trying to hide the
truth about that moment of her life, she changes the subject in the
conversation, she hides herself. Jesus leads her to discover herself, she
guides her to be able to face her own reality and after getting to know
herself and accepting her reality –painful as it may be- a new person
emerges. When she shows herself as she really is, she finds the Lord.
Therefore, she is no longer afraid of coming back to tell her relatives that
she has met Somebody who has told her everything about her life; so that
they can also meet the One who discovers the truth for us, the One who is
the truth, the path and life.
That is the reason why, following our path in Lent, we don’t want to be
afraid of going deeper into our reality so that the Lord can change it, and
as real disciples and missionaries, we have to know how to give testimony of
the one who gives us a new view and a new heart.
We continue walking towards Easter.
