How difficult it is to keep loyalty, the “I do”, when society, culture,
costumes, seem to push us to say “No, I don’t”. Mary knows the problems that
being pregnant can bring, when a man hasn’t been known yet. Al the same, she
trusts and accepts God’s will.
Through this path of loyalty we sometimes need the others to help us not to
give in, to keep firm. Mary has Joseph by her, who even knowing what
traditions established, doesn’t denounce her and avoids Mary being
lapidated. God had looked into Mary and had given her this mission, Joseph
trusted her, even though he did not understand, he wanted to trust in her.
And this way in his dreams God lets him know and be a participant of the
salvation mystery, the fair man, believes in God and trusts Mary.
Because of that the pregnancy can go on, because of this reason the
fulfillment of the divine plan is
possible.
The same happens in every of us personal life. Loyalty, perseverance, many
times, we need others, who apparently are absent, but with their words,
their being there, their support, help us to go on saying “I do”.
Who doesn’t need, sometimes, in the darkness of the way, to be given some
light? Who doesn’t need that somebody shows us a star, to be able to keep
the way? Closing into ourselves is not good, self vocation is built and
becomes reality in the necessary dialogue with our brothers and sisters.
Advent is also time to thank everybody, who in one or the other way, acts as
an oasis in the middle of the desert times of our lives. People who simply
help us to be what we are today, people who were aware and available, who
transmit their joy, who cured our pains, who believed in our possibilities,
who felt, loved or suffered by our sides, who accepted our mistakes, who
hold us and gave us impulse.
