First names
Some people find it surprising to hear that
two Polish names sounding totally different are in fact a name and its short
form. My name, for example, is short for Magdalena and Kasia is
short for Katarzyna.
There are some more examples: Ola for Aleksandra, Gosia for
Małgorzata. Some names, like Ewa, are easier to remember, as they don’t
have a short form of this kind.
You could have noted that all female names end in ‘a’, regardless
of the form.
The most popular male names are for example Michał (Michael), Łukasz
(Luke), Maciek or Piotr (Peter).
