Slavonic tribes arrived at the territory of present-day Poland in 6th century. Their political organization gradually evolved from the rule of tribal assembly to the rule of the duke, due to frequent wars. Over the centuries one of the tribes, Polanians (hence the name: Poland), managed to gain advantage over their neighbours, which led to the subjugation of the latter.
