                  Jan Matejko

 

Jan Matejko (1838 - 1893) is famous for paintings of notable political and military events.

These include great battles, numerous court scenes, and a gallery of Polish kings. These subjects gave Matejko the reputation of not only a skilful painter, but also of an exponent of national memory.

 Apart from that, Matejko was a teacher of many significant painters of the subsequent generation. .

Stanisław Wyspiański (1869 – 1907)
 was a playwright, poet, painter and architect. He successfully combined trend of modernism with themes of Polish history.

 In series of stained-glass windows in Franciscan church in Kraków he expresses enormous dose of religious emotion.

 He also wrote many dramas covering crucial moments of Polish history. His famous drama ‘Wedding’ is almost sadly sarcastic view on Polish society of 19th century.
